Easy step-by-step instructions on how to make a poached egg with a soft yolk
- Add water to a skillet, frying pan or shallow pot
- Fill it about 2/3rd full.
- Place the skillet onto the stove top and turn heat on high. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to a simmer before adding the egg. The reason being is that we want to keep the egg whites in tact while poaching.
- Add 1 tsp vinegar to boiling water. If you’re wondering why? The reason for using this ingredient will help keep the whites of the egg in tact; without this ingredient however the whites tend to separate from the yolk leaving you with a smaller portion to enjoy.
- Reduce heat down to low to maintain this low boiling level (small bubbles is what we want here)
- Add egg
- Using a spoon, gently scoop simmering water over top of the egg yolk because the top of the egg will cook at the same speed as the bottom and you don’t have to flip the egg over.
- Cook for 2 minutes for a soft yolk however if you prefer a hard yolk them simply cook for a few minutes longer.
- Add slice of bread to the toaster
- Butter your toast
- Using the spatula, gently pick up the egg allowing the water to run off the egg prior to placing onto the toast.
- If you like, you can add salt and pepper. Or, add a slice of cheese.
- Enjoy
